A large scale pine shop counter dating from the late 19th Century. A real beauty that must have been commissioned for a very impressive retail shop due to it's unusual and elaborate design. It was found in a garage and has been used as a workbench for many years, as is often the case; although thanks to these avid DIYers many pieces like this one have survived to live another life.
It features decorative columns which add depth and interest to the paneled front and sides. We have left it as much as possible in the condition it came to us to allow the piece to tell it's own story-one of opulence and the despair! There is a piece missing from the front right hand column, a small hole in one of the paneled sides, the original hardwood top has many drill holes and had oil stains which we have cleaned and sealed. There are traces of green paint which we painstakingly removed to reveal the original creamy white colour beneath. We particularly like the recessed kickboard, a feature we have not come across in any of the shop counters we have previously had.
The rear side has ample storage provided by the drawers and shelves. This old counter would make a stunning and unique centrepiece in a kitchen.
