Exquisite pair of William Morris Sussex armchairs. This chair was named after a country chair found in Sussex, England and was the inspiration for the turned frame and rush seat.
Morris and his wife Jane used Sussex chairs in their home, along with their notable artist and sculptor friends. It was described by Robert Edis in his influential book 'Decoration and Furnishing of Townhouses in 1881' as 'excellent, comfortable and artistic'.
The chair is in excellent condition with a restored rush seat.
