Incredible Victorian shop counter which originates from a haberdashery shop in the Spitalfields area of London, an area renowned for Jewish tailors . The front has two large and two smaller decorative panels; we believe it may have been cut down at some point in which case it must have been huge! The rear side has eight large pigeon holes which are perfect for displaying crockery and pots and pans, or you could put baskets in to hide a load of clutter! We have sanded the hardwood top back so it is a clean surface which can be sealed if required. There is an indent which would originally have had a brass ruler, which would be nice to replace at some point. It has been later painted in a black eggshell.
It is a great looking piece from both sides so would make a fantastic centrepiece in a kitchen; however it would work equally well against a wall.
This is a very large piece , which would also be great as a shop counter in a retail environment.
